It’s been 5 years!

Our first e-newsletter since tax season and we hit you with Type 1 Diabetes. Five years ago, in March, my daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D). To celebrate I will publish one educational T1D e-newsletter per month until October. October is when we have our annual T1D Fund raising Walk in downtown Sacramento. Oh, and I’m also going to ask for your help…see below. For those of you unfamiliar with T1D, it’s an auto-immune disease that first expresses itself in young children and young adults. With T1D the body attacks its own pancreas beta cells. The result is people with T1D cannot produce insulin which is needed to metabolize food into energy. More specifically, they need insulin after eating anything. T1D is currently un-curable. It is a lifetime disease that needs constant vigilance. T1D is often confused with Type 2 Diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is “generally”, but not always, caused by poor eating habits. With type 2 diabetes the body still produces insulin, however, the body becomes resistant to it. Now on to the help part. Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (www.jdrf.org) is the largest fundraising, research foundation dedicated to finding a cure or better treatment options for Type 1 Diabetics. Every year my daughter spearheads a JDRF fund raising campaign for the annual walk. She’s put on bake sales, can collection drives, sewed American Girl doll clothing to sell, made Christmas cards to sell, etc. She’s worked her butt off over the years raising money. This year, for her five year anniversary, I want to rock her world. I want to raise over $5,000. Not sure how this will happen, but I have to put it out there. I know, you’re thinking this week’s e-newsletter is not related in any shape or form to financial or tax planning. But you are mistaken. You, or someone you know, can get a tax deduction by donating to the annual JDRF walk. This would be huge to my daughter, huge to me, and huge to anyone with T1D. Please forward this e-mail to anyone you know that may want to contribute. Below is the donation link.
